The 2025 Nobel in Literature: Laszlo Krasznahorkai

Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai won the 2025 Nobel in Literature, according to the Nobel committee, “for his compelling and visionary oeuvre that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror, reaffirms the power of art.”
Born in 1954, Krasznahorkai is the second Hungarian Nobel laureate in Literature after Imre Kertesz in 2002.
He is known for his difficult and demanding novels which investigate dystopian and melancholy themes. His 1985 breakthrough novel, Satantango, is set in a remote remote area. It became a literary sensation in Hungary.
Krasznahorkai has written nine novels, numerous collections of short fiction and essays, and several screenplays. He will accept the award on December 10, 2025.
