Cloris Schermer returns to the east of Pittsburgh, PA, the area where she was born and raised. After she arrives, she gets romantically involved with Reynolds Hughes, a man from a family her mother warns her about. The Hughes family is the county’s richest and most powerful.
Reynolds mother is equally against anyone named Schermer dating her son.
Cloris and Reynolds have a brief, childless marriage leading to divorce when Reynolds is unfaithful. However, the two are miserable apart and plan to remarry.
Cloris digs into her family tree while the two are divorced and makes a discovery that changes the relationship of Reynold and Cloris forever. They have an important decision to make.
Cloris Hughes is a good read. Tannenbaum brings the characters to life and we are fascinated by their predicament.
