Many years ago, I volunteered at a Rape Crisis Center in a large city. Even then, in the relatively short time I was there, law enforcement in collaboration with local emergency rooms…and certainly with the support of the Rape Crisis Center itself…diligently collected DNA samples from the body and clothes of victims. Yes, we all knew it wasn’t solving much for us at the time…but we hoped. As a family member of one murder victim in the early 1960s and a college chum of a rape and murder victim in the mid-1970s, I looked forward to and prayed that all this evidence being collected at crime scenes…especially from the bodies of crime victims…would one day bear fruit.
